RE: best rv park on the beach in florida??

anyone stayed at Beverly Beach Camptown??? We stayed there last week. We LOVED it. It was nice being RIGHT ON the beach. You are close to your neighbors but the beach really did make it worth it to us. Here is a photo I took while there. http://photos.somd.com/data/500/medium/V2.jpg

RE: RV Parking at the National Aquarium in Baltimore

We ended up getting a site at the KOA Capitol Campground. It wa 18 miles away, dropped off the 5ver and stayed ALL day at the Harbour. Did not get back until 1am. Parking a dually wasnt that easy either. Parking garages are not designed for the extra width, but we managed. We had a problem finding a place to park with DH's truck last time we went. Nothing was big enough for the truck

RE: Campgrounds where we can take our GOLF CART

We are a family of 5 with young kids. We love Disney Fort Wilderness. We bought our electric golf cart to use there and in our neighborhood. I've seen a lot of campgrounds where you can rent *their* golf carts...but we want to bring our own. Do you guys know of any other family fun campgrounds where we can bring our cart? Btw, we are near Atlanta GA, but don't mind traveling to our camping destinations! TIA http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn19/us3p2/DSC_6954-1.jpg We just got back from Fort Wilderness and we rented a cart. It would be miserable there without one. Beth Page in Va lets you take your own. We are thinking of getting one ourselves. DH is already planning how to fix it up. We saw some really cool ones in FL

RE: Need an RV Park in Daytona Beach

Heading to the Keys from Washington DC in August. Plan to stop overnight at South of the Boarder (SC)and somewhere around Daytona Beach. Can anyone recommend a nice CG in the Daytona area preferably with pullthroughs. Got a 35ft MH with toad. Thanks, We stayed here last week on our way to Disney http://www.beverlybeachcamptown.com/ It did NOT have pull throughs but it was right on the beach. We loved it! Here is a photo I took there. The sites are close but being on the beach made up for it. Oh and it's right before Daytona Beach. We stayed at South of the Border campground on the way back. Only $24! http://photos.somd.com/data/500/medium/V2.jpg

RE: Most Difficult Trip Yet

We tent camp, and on this most recent trip this past weekend I got so stinkin frustrated with my 2 kids, ages 7&9. Bickering. Complaining. Whining. Disobedient. Unwilling to help break camp. They've NEVER been this uncooperative on a camping trip! The weather was terrible...rain that caused us to pack up a day early. I just was in a crummy mood. I told my kids we'd never go camping again. Now I regret that I said that because I know I was just having a bad few days. Rotten hormones!!! Maureen One of my favorite things about camping is how well my kids 10, 8 & 7 get along. At home they are at each others throats btu camping they are the best of friends.

RE: Most Difficult Trip Yet

Ugh we just got back from Fort Wilderness. We left one morning and it stormed while we were away. DH didn't put the awning at enought of a slant. So we get back and the awning is so sagged down and full of water. We knew it was going to burst any minute. DH tried to let one side down and the other side just snapped :( So the pole hooking it to the TT is broken, the awning is bent and the material is sagged.

RE: First Long Trip

We are back from our trip to Disney and we had a BLAST. We ended up stopping at a rest stop in NC for one night, in Georgia for one night and then we spent 2 nights on the beach in Florida and then on to Fort Wilderness. On the way home we only stopped one night at South of the Border. We didn't take alot of food with us and we ended up eating out alot while we were there. We were so tired at the end of the day we didn't feel like cooking anything LOL. It was a great time but it sure does feel good to be home!

RE: Campgrounds in or near St. Augustine FL

We stayed at the KOA in St. Augustine in Feb and it was ok. A little pricy at $80.00 a night if I remember but ok. 80 freakin dollars I guess you don't mind paying 4 bucks for gas either!!! Just find any state park between georgia and orlando at reserveamerica.com and book the proper length site. Less than 20 bucks for most. We paid $80 a night for this site we are at now on the beach. More then I wanted to pay but DH really wanted to stay on the beach. We paid $4.19 for gas here today. We have already exceeded what I planned to spend on gas and we haven't even gotten to Disney yet. We maybe walking home :E

RE: Campgrounds in or near St. Augustine FL

Anastasia State Park in St Augustine is about 3 hours from Disney. Excellent campground!! If booked, try Tomoka State Park (2 hrs from Disney) or Wekiva Springs (1.0 hour from park). Lake Louisa State Park is south of Disney (about 45 minutes, if traffic is bad). Have fun! Thanks! I am worried we won't find anything on a Friday and Saturday night

Campgrounds in or near St. Augustine FL

We are on our way to Disney and we didn't book any sites along the way. Any suggestions of places no further then 2 hours from Disney? We don't check in there until Sunday and right now we are in Georgia right outside Savannah at Tybee Island.

RE: First Long Trip

THANKS everyone for your help! We are currently on Tybee Island in Georgia. We ended up leaving for our trip 2 days early and we don't check into Disney until Sunday. We haven't told the kids we are going to Disney yet. They think we are going to TN LOL I can't believe they haven't figured it out. What happened to all the billboard signs along 95 announching Disney? We are going to drive more today. My goal is to find a campground no more then 2 hours outside of Disney and stay there until Sunday. We were going to stop at a friends who lives outside of St. Augustine but her husbands aunt passed away and they are in NC. The kids have done pretty well. We left at 7pm on Wednesday so they could sleep and we drove until 2:30 in the morning. Yesterday we stopped at South of the Border. That place is so cheesy but it was on my MUST DO list.

RE: Campground Rates

I know that the Jellystone is Hagerstown MD would cost my family almost $100 a night. We have stayed there before they opened the waterslides and it was no where near that expensive. Since they added the slides they charge a few for everyone in your family even if you do not use the slides. We will stay somewhere else before we pay those prices. I hear ya. The Jellystone in Luray was wanting $78 per night for the 3 of us. I don't use the water slides or anything else for that matter but I would like my son to enjoy them. They charge each person a per day fee whether you use it or not. That is just ridiculous. We ended up staying at Country Waye down the road which, to my my disappointment, has also gone up in price. It was $53 per night. I seem to recall it was below around $40 just 4 years ago. I didn't realize that The Luray Jellystone did that now. We haven't been there in a few years and it used to be you paid if you used the slides. I guess that's another one to knock off our list.

RE: First Long Trip

I would recommend that you stop on the road at some campgrounds with pools and limit your Walmart stays. It really helps my boys to burn off some excess energy swimming or biking after a day in the truck. They sleep much better and in turn we do too! Use a vacuum food saver if you have one. If not, ask your friends to borrow one. It is an excellent way to save prepared foods and takes less space in the freezer than containers. For casseroles I would prepare and freeze them at home. After it is solid cut into serving portions and bag separately mark with a sharpie if you have more than one casserole (they all look alike when frozen). This too saves space in the freezer of your camper. To cool down our frig I always put the items that will need defrosting for our first few meals. I know you said your hubby doesn't want the extra weight of food, but your frig runs better if it is full not empty. Also, it is easier and faster to shop at your home stores than in a strange one out of town or state. I am excited for you! We have been only RVing for a few years and have loved our long summer trips. The boys picked up a national parks passport in Yellowstone in '06 and are quickly trying to fill it with stamps from all the national parks! I'm no expert, but learn by trail and error. If there is anything I can help with let me know...food, car entertainment, making up bunk beds, storage. All issues we tackle every trip. I am not into staying at Wal-marts ever LOL. I have never driven the truck while towing the camper. I think on this trip I might give it a try. The vacuum saver is a great idea and my SIL has one. As a matter of fact she is leaving Monday for over a week long cruise and my nephew is staying with me. We leave a few days after they get back so I can prepare everything while she is away. So what entertains your kids in the car? Thanks for the tips :)

RE: First Long Trip

You are probably back by now, hope it was a great trip. My addition was to take snacks/ peanut butter/ jelly etc to have own lunch stuff for the road, junk food is the only eats found on the road. Don't need too much other than short and bathing suits in St Aug, lots of beach towels. Don't forget the sunscreen and limit sun exposure time for first few days. You guys are not used to the intensity of sun here, keep hydrated. Have a great vacation, lots of fun stuff in St Augustine. We don't leave for a couple of weeks so any info is appreciated :) Oldest made a menu for the trip and the travel days she wrote Burger King and the 2nd day McDonalds LOL I think we are going to stop and make sandwiches. We can skip all the fast food places and save the money for nice dinners in Florida.

RE: First Long Trip

We just got back from a two week trip with our two boys (9, 11). We covered over 3000 miles going from San Antonio, TX to St. Augustine, FL, then Savannah,GA and finally Charleston, SC before heading back to TX. The idea of extra spares is good, we had to buy two tires on our trip. We tend to drive long days to get to our destination (it takes a day to just get out of Texas!). A 500+ day is not unusual for us, but you have to know your limits. Both of us share the driving and that helps. I usually pack as much meals as possible, but we usually have to hit the store halfway through the trip. We tend to eat breakfast and dinner at our camp site and we are usually away during the day. We pack a weeks worth of clothing. I ended up doing laundry twice on our two week trip. It isn't bad when most camp grounds have several washers and dryers available. I just do it on a slow day and the kids play in the pool. Loads ran from $1.25-1.50. As far as camping in St. Augustine. We stayed at Bryn Mawr (www.brynmawroceanresort.com). I would recommend it if you want to be on the beach. We had a blast there! We also bought a 3 day pass for the Ripley's Red Train (kids are free this summer). They had a shuttle that picked us up each day and took us into the historical area. It was great letting someone else do the driving! Hope this helps and reaches you before your trip! Thanks! We were planning to stay in St. Augustine but now we will still outside of there. Some friends of ours just moved down to FL last month and they are about 20 minutes from St. Augustine so we are going to stop there and stay the night and visit with our friends :)

RE: Air Bag What to get?

Ok I am trying to figure this out. Our old truck was a 350 and we had no problems towing. The new one is a 250 and after just talking with DH he said his major problem is the bounce. When towing it bounces to much. So what would be the solution to this? Air bags?

RE: Air Bag What to get?

I've had Airlift and now Firestone and both do the same thing. Do you have a 5er or TT? Some of the bag kits interfere with 5er hitches but they can be made to work. Some TT owners say bags aren't necessary with an equalizer hitch. I don't know about that but they are still GREAT for hauling heavy stuff in the bed for the honey-do's. I wouldn't be without the incab controls either. Craig It's a TT. How expensive is the set up? Where did you get yours from?

RE: Air Bag What to get?

did you do a search and not get a bizilion hits? I run the firestones on my F 250 and would not be without them. I did do a search but since I don't really know what I am looking for or what we need I thought I would ask for some advice.
